The planned biodiversity park at Dunmore
Work is progressing on the first phase of the new Kilkenny Countryside Park at Dunmore, with significant progress made on the construction of the viewing area and the various trails atop the remediated landfill.
According to Kilkenny County Council, progress has also been made on the installation of the ball wall and the fencing for the dog-friendly enclosure has also begun.
Road widening along the Bleach Road access to the new parking area is also substantially complete and works on provision of the 17 car and 60 bicycle parking area has also progressed.
The council says work has also started to prepare the Dunmore community carpark for the opening of the park. The carpark is linked to the park via an off-road trail upgraded last year. This phase of the project is being funded under Measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The council is also exploring potential suitable funding streams to deliver a second phase of the project, which will include the installation of play and exercise equipment, amenity spaces, additional trail development and interpretation signage that tell the story of the site from waste landfill to an area rich in biodiversity.
