Nine dogs surrendered and 89 strays picked up, with Kilkenny public reporting restricted breeds more

Calls from the public in relation to dog control have increased in Kilkenny in recent months, and the council says it's in part due to people being more active in reporting loose dogs and - in particular- restricted breeds.

The local dog shelter is dealing with increased demand. At the end of March, there were 106 dogs handled by the Carlow/Kilkenny Dog Shelter.

Of the 106 dogs, 89 - were strays and there were nine surrenders. There were 39 dogs re-homed by the shelter and 36 dogs
transferred to charities for rehoming along with 17 dogs being reclaimed by their owners.
