Mandatory intoxication checkpoints are increasing in Kilkenny/Carlow

Mandatory intoxicant checkpoints ramp up in Kilkenny/Carlow

Gardaí in the Kilkenny-Carlow Division have conducted 837 mandatory intoxication checkpoints so far this year (as of June 22), according to new figures released in Dáil Éireann.

The figures follow a recent pledge from gardaí in the district to ramp up roadside drug testing on foot of new data showing that approximately one in six roadside drug tests are returning a positive result.

This statistic was relayed to public representatives at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee back in March.
