Kilkenny native Billy Bennett has been appointed the Interim Head of Operations of the Donegal County Committee at the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy.A new Interim Implementation Team has been appointed by Donegal GAA as a step of their process to carry out the recommendations following a shocking report on the body’s workings.

Accompanying Kilkenny’s Billy Bennett on the new team is Roger Keenan as the Interim Coaching support and Gerard Bradley takes on the role of Interim Governance and Finance support.

The trio were installed on Monday at the monthly meeting of the Donegal County Committee at the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy.

A review of the talent academy, finance and governance structures of Donegal GAA last month displayed a dire need of significant alterations in the way Donegal’s Gaelic games are run.

Donegal GAA made a point to highlight that the Interim Implementation Team that have just been appointed  are equipped  to tackle the issues brought to light with ‘a vast array of experience in the specific areas required'.

Kilkenny’s Dr Bennett isn't new to the scene and has a list of titles attached to his name.  DR Bennett is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), previously held the posts of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, Head of School of Business and Head of Teaching and Learning at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT).

The review of Donegal GAA revealed 14 ‘high-risk’ findings, which has resulted in Donegal GAA working towards addressing those.

A statement from the Donegal County Board said: “Donegal GAA Coiste Bainisti now await a further  invitation from the Review Committee, so that they can plan the way ahead.”
