Is night-life in Kilkenny about to change?

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, has announced a support package of €800,000 for 12 pilots across the country to support innovative approaches to night-time cultural activities.

The measures, which have been put in place in partnership with the Arts Council, also include a €2 million capital grant scheme to support venues implementing soundproof measures to reduce noise at night.

In October 2022, the Minister announced that Kilkenny was one of nine towns/cities across the country to receive funding as part of a pilot initiative to support the development of a vibrant and diverse Night-Time Economy.

Other towns/cities to be included are; Dublin City, Cork City, Galway City, Limerick City, Drogheda, Sligo, Buncrana and Longford Town.

Announcing the Night-Time Economy initiatives today, Minister Martin said:

''The Late Night Events Pilot Programme which I am announcing today, will seek to use our publicly funded cultural spaces around the country to their fullest potential and make them appealing to new audiences''.
