Local mental health service, Teac Tom, has vowed to battle on following a turbulent period for the charity.
The service, which offers mental-health support and counselling in Kilkenny and Stradbally, was founded by Angela Hayes following the deaths of her husband and son by suicide.
In May, the organisation released an emotional statement revealing the service was in danger of closure with the payment of rent, salaries and bills unsustainable within two months.
Since then, the Kilkenny community has extended their support, offering hope the charity can continue to provide much-needed mental health services.
Founder and current CEO Angela Hayes, has worked tirelessly to keep Teac-Tom afloat since its inception and is grateful to locals for their support, believing the centre is a necessity.
“A lot of people came on board to help in any way they could, one person paid a month’s rent because she felt the service was invaluable to her and believes her niece wouldn’t be here today without it.”
Despite founding the service following her own personal tragedies, Angela is keen to look to the future and help people who find themselves in mental-health difficulties, recalling heart wrenching phone calls from distressed people seeking help and the transformation the service has had on their lives.
Ms Hayes’ passion for Teac Tom has been tested in recent months, vividly recalling her distress and uncertainty earlier this year. However, after a generous volunteer lended his services, a business plan was drafted and is set to be reviewed by the HSE and Minister for Mental Health.
"We don’t want anything more than we need, we just need what we can get by on each month," Ms Hayes said.
"If anyone would like to organise a fundraiser or come on board to assist they are more than welcome."
