Iconic Kilkenny band opens its doors to the public

Iconic Kilkenny band opens its doors

Members of the public are being invited to a St Patrick's Brass & Reed Band open day on August 12, from 2-3pm in the band room, located on Coote's Lane in Kilkenny City.

Attendees can try out instruments the band have on offer, plus hear the talented Junior Band play a few tunes at 3pm.

The band has performed at many major moments in the history of the city during its 141 year history, most notably parading the Irish Volunteers to James Stephen Barracks when the barracks was handed over to the Irish Free State in 1922.

Considered one of Kilkenny's most beloved institutions, the band has both a junior and senior membership, spanning through numerous  family generations.

The admired local group has also performed at some of the city's most iconic buildings and events including: Kilkenny Castle, the Town Hall and multiple St Patrick's Day parades.

A great day is expected and people are welcome to attend the Village Inn for refreshments afterwards.
