Lockdown-honed skills see hobby blossom into artisan Kilkenny business

A local woman has turned her hobby into a growing new business, with an online shop now open specialising in personalised knitted cardigans and bespoke crochet blankets.

Jen White found crocheting a good way to spend time and relieve stress during the pandemic lockdowns, and began to receive a lot of interest in her creations on social media.

Last month, she responded to the demand with the launch of her new website posyandcosy.ie. Business has been brisk so far.

The business, Posy & Cosy, is named after her grandparents, nicknamed Posy and Cosy, as it was Jen’s grandmother who helped teach her crocheting and instilled the passion for it. Her previous job as a shepherdess cemented her love for all things sheep, especially fibre-crafts.

“Crochet gave me immense enjoyment and an escape from the stress of Covid, and first-time parenting! I began making baby blankets for friends’ children as gifts and then excitingly orders started coming in,” she said.

She has a special word of thanks for Sandra Thompson of Thompson Admin Services Ltd who created the website.

“Sandra is so talented at what she does and I would have been completely lost without her expertise,” says Jen.
