It could be a happy Christmas for patrons of the Steppes Bar with the Green Street pub set to reopen in time for the festive season.
The premises, owned by Alice and Eddie Kelly, has been closed for the past few months after an electrical fault caused a fire on a busy Saturday afternoon in July.
After inspection by the fire officer, the doors were closed in order to allow an upgrade of all electrics. Closing their business was bad enough for the Kellys but, as they also lived over the premises, they also had to vacate their home - their good friend Marty Mulhall at Poulacapple came to their rescue, taking them in.
There’s no doubt that the Steppes has been missed, but things may be back to normal by Christmas.
