Kilkenny communities eagerly await award verdicts

Kilkenny village eagerly awaits award verdict

Kilkenny's entries for the Tidy Towns competition are full of nerves and optimism as the award ceremony gets closer.

The awards, sponsored by SuperValu, will be announced in Croke Park this Friday, October 6 and amongst the county's entries are Castlecomer and Tullahought.

Windgap Notes: Congrats and thanks to all volunteers for the great work as all the local villages eagerly await the Super Valu National Tidy Towns awards will be announced in Croke Park on this Friday. Early good news is that Tullahought Tidy Towns is amongst those invited to attend the ceremony.

Castlecomer Notes: With the Tidy Towns results due to be announced shortly the Castlecomer group are watching this space with both anxiety and optimism. The one and only recognition the group received was from Bord Na Mona in 1967 for the lawns.

Tidy Towns Castlecomer (TTC) has improved year on year, in most recent times especially, which gives encouragement to continue the work and instil pride in Castlecomer’s heritage.

Being involved in the National Tidy Towns Competition benefits the group by focusing work on a range of different aspects of the competition. It helps to keep the group informed on local issues, national and global issues, such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan - by doing so the TTC hope to inform others.

Tidy Towns Castlecomer is about the community coming together to provide a place where visitors are delighted to come and where locals are proud to call home. The group continues to progress sustainability and biodiversity - there are now 17 flower beds, 3 fully planted with perennial shrubs.
