Kilkenny family seeking help in fight against aggressive childhood cancer

A Kilkenny family is seeking the public's help as their two year old daughter battles an aggressive form of cancer.

Lilibeth Cahill is a beloved only child of Adrian and Maria and she has brought great joy and happiness to her parents and extended family.

In August of this year, Lilibeth was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer.

After numerous tests and scans, it was determined that Lilibeth had a large tumour in her stomach and two smaller tumours on her head. The cancer had also spread to her bone marrow.

With one sentence the happy, carefree world of Lilibeth and her parents was turned upside down.

Lilibeth started treatment immediately, consisting of chemotherapy, bone marrow extraction and replacement, surgery to remove the stomach tumour, intensive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

The treatment, which lasts 18 months, involves travelling to Crumlin regularly as well as various hospital appointments locally.

The period has been a challenge for the Cahill family, Maria has had to close her long-established cake making business while Adrian has had to reduce his hours as a stone mason.

On the occasion of Lilibeth’s second birthday, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to try and raise funds to help alleviate the financial strain that the family are experiencing as a result of this heart-breaking situation.

"Any and all donations will be gratefully received and will go towards expenses such as travel to and from Crumlin, fuel, accommodation etc. Anything surplus will be for Lilibeth’s future as the treatment she is receiving has various side affects which will affect her in the future," the Go Fund Me page read.
