WEATHER UPDATE: Thunder and lightning strike Kilkenny

Thunder and lightning has hit parts of Kilkenny this lunchtime as heavy rainfall continues to fall across the county causing severe flooding in local areas.

According to Carlow Weather, Thomastown has recorded over 30mm of rainfall so far, while parts of Inistioge are reported to be experiencing severe flooding. 

Elsewhere in South Kilkenny, the N25 is flooded at Rhu Glenn, Slieverue. Kilkenny County Council staff are attending the scene and motorists are advised to proceed with extreme caution.

In Kilkenny City, there is serious flooding at the railway bridge on O'Loughlin Road.
