Parts of Thomastown are under water today following heavy rainfall which caused flooding.

A number of roads were impassable earlier today but damage to business appears minimal.

Local resident, Shem Caulfield who lives at The Quays said that while the 'water is still rising' his home has not been damaged.

"I am using pumps and they are working," he said adding that the river was in full flow earlier today.

"At one point I saw a bottle bank passing down the river, somewhere in Kilkenny must be missing one," he added.

Meanwhile Councillor Deirdre Cullen is calling on Minister for State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works to fund local flood schemes for Thomastown and Inistioge and for start dates to be given as a matter of urgency.
