'It puts Kilkenny on the map': Morrison welcomes Bruce Springsteen's upcoming local performance

Chairman of the Kilkenny Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI), Anthony Morrison, has welcomed the return of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band to Kilkenny in 2024.

The New Jersey rocker who wowed audiences in Nowlan Park in 2013 will be back in that venue on May 12, 2024.

Reacting to the news, Mr Morrison claimed the announcement is 'great for Kilkenny,' adding, 'it's another string in Kilkenny's bow.'

"We will possibly be one of the pinnacles of his tour due to the fact he loves Kilkenny, he is known to come to Kilkenny and he stays in Kilkenny when he does his gigs in other venues," he said.

The local publican is also hopeful the US rock star won't be the only person in love with the Marble City next May.

"Kilkenny has unique offering to other cities and anyone attending will get the best experience as everything is in walking distance," he commented, claiming people from all parts of the country will travel Noreside for the concert.

Mr Morrison, the proprietor of Christy's Bar, upper Patrick Street, believes the concert's Sunday night scheduling may make the search for accommodation 'a little bit easier for people' and create a healthy market for local pubs, restaurants and other businesses from Thursday to Sunday of that week.

Tickets for the concert go on sale locally on November 5.
