ON THIS DAY: Kilkenny City makes weather history

Kilkenny people heading to work, school or just carrying out their day to day chores were greeted by chilly conditions this morning, with temperatures dropping as low as -1 degrees.

Today also marks a significant weather anniversary locally as the 'Big Freeze' made its mark on the county in 2010.

In December of that year, Mount Juliet, near Thomastown recorded the county's lowest ever temperature at -16.4 degrees.
