Local auctioneer Fran Grincell is back on the fundraising trail this Christmas, as his annual Kickathon event returned for 2023 last Monday.
The now annual event in the local calendar sees Fran bear the winter elements by kicking a ball against a wall for 90 minutes over 12 consecutive nights.
This year, Fran is raising funds for local charity Cois Nore, and is looking to build on a successful Kickathon fundraiser for the charity in 2022.
This year’s event marks a significant period for the cancer service as earlier this month, a campaign to create a state of the art new cancer support centre for Cois Nore on the Waterford Road was launched at the Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny City.
Speaking ahead of the fundraiser, the auctioneer said: "If you're in a position to do it, the onus is on you to do it."
Fran, well-known for his charity work said he was 'glad' to be part of a cause against the 'soul-destroying' disease that is cancer.
Grincell also admitted the nights can be 'tough going' but is relishing the challenge.
The fundraiser kicks-off each evening at 6.30pm and continues until Friday, December 8 on Parliament Street, beside the Watergate Theatre.
