A Mayor's award was presented to musician Jimmy Trigger at a special event at the Town Hall last week.

In 2021, the then Mayor Andrew McGuinness, presented musician Jimmy Trigger with a Mayors Award to acknowledge his ‘outstanding contribution to Kilkenny’s music scene as an artist who has encouraged many young musicians and as an individual living abroad who has promoted Kilkenny at every opportunity.’

The award was presented virtually online via Zoom due to the fact that Jimmy now lives in Los Angeles where he works in the music industry.

The award was presented physically on Friday as Jimmy returned to headline the Zoo/Underground Reunion. There was a small ceremony in the Mayors office attended by Jimmys family and close friends.

“I’m honored and proud to still be remembered and always representing Kilkenny across oceans and anywhere I go. It truly is and always will be home! Up the cats,” said Jimmy Trigger.

“I’m delighted to have finally gotten the opportunity the present the award properly to Jimmy. It’s well deserved as during his younger years Jimmy was a great influence on many young people in kilkenny involved in the local music since and since he moved to Los Angeles he has always promoted Kilkenny and it’s music scene at every opportunity,” said Andrew McGuinness.
