Kilkenny village to rediscover its history on St Stephen's Day

The South Kilkenny Historical Society will organise a Wren Day (Lá an Dreoilín) for St Stephen’s Day based on the old tradition of groups being out around the area, playing traditional music and singing. In times past, it included setting out to capture a wren which was said to bring good luck.

In an effort to revive the traditional Wren Day the Society are asking people to come in made up costumes if they wish and to participate by singing, playing or just accompanying the group as it moves. The emphasis is on participation, fun and enjoyment.

The meeting point is at the Church Car Park in Mullinavat at 11am on St Stephen’s Day. All are welcome.
