Over 600 children from St Canice's Co-Ed are moving from their classrooms into prefabs with work continuing on the development on new facilities this week.
In October, Minister for Education, Norma Foley, announced the beginning of construction on seven large-scale school building projects across the country as part of Project Nore.
St Canice's alongside CBS Kilkenny and Presentation Kilkenny received funding for new and modernised facilities under the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA).
The move, part of a plan which will see the construction of a new school, has meant much co-operation between teachers, staff and pupils as they prepare to welcome the dawn of a new era with a new 24 classroom school building which will also include special classes for children with additional needs expected to be completed within two years.
Speaking to the Kilkenny People at the beginning of the development, School Principal, Andy Hanrahan, commented: "It'll benefit St Canice's and Kilkenny City for the next 50 or 60 years," adding, "the new school building is not only designed for the present but also for the future."
