Man accused of endangerment is remanded in custody - Kilkenny Live

The accused was before Kilkenny District Court

A man accused of endangerment and theft was remanded in custody to appear before Kilkenny District Court for DPP’s directions.

Jerry Mongon, 4 Bracken Drive, Old Tramore Road, Waterford is accused of the offences which are alleged to have taken place at Ladywell Apartments, Ladyswell, Thomastown on December 15.

The defendant appeared before Kilkenny District Court last Monday and applied for bail.

Garda Matt Donnellan said that gardaí were objecting to bail because of the seriousness of the charges before the court. The garda told the court that it is alleged that both charges took place at Ladyswell Street at approximately 10.30am.

Gda Donnellan said that it is alleged that the injured party was working on a property and when he came out on the road he disturbed a male who was trying to steal tools from his van. It is also alleged that the accused then drove at the injured party, throwing him in the air and that this resulted in the injured party sustaining two broken ribs. It is also alleged that the incident was captured on CCTV.

Gda Donnellan also told the court that CCTV was gathered and that it is alleged that the car used in the incident was registered to the defendant’s wife and was later seized.

The defendant admitted to gardaí that he was travelling around that morning ‘looking for vehicles to steal tools from’.

Judge Geraldine Carthy remarked that while the court acknowledges that the accused comes before the court presumed innocent she was refused the bail application due to the seriousness of the alleged offences. The judge remanded the defendant in custody to appear before Kilkenny District Court on January 25 via videolink and on that date he was further remanded in custody to  February 13 for DPP’s directions.
