Kilkenny performer John Rice made his professional stage debut on Saturday when John B. Keane's Sive opened at The Gaiety Theatre.

The Johnswell native played the part of Liam Scuab in the classic masterpiece, one of the nation's most celebrated plays.

John Keane, son of John B. Keane, described Rice's performance as 'incredible'.

"He brought depth and passion to the role," he said.

Back in 2021, Rice lit up The Watergate Theatre with his one man show ‘Light Dark and Diverse’.

In it, John showcased his variety of skills when he performed a series of diverse monologues and musical theatre numbers from a variety of well-known productions.

Money raised from that gig helped John fulfil his dream of attending London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), the oldest specialist drama school in Britain.

He has since graduated from LAMDA, and has now arrived to the masses as a professional stage performer.
