The late Liam Drennan (RIP)
St Patrick's Parish has been in mourning this week following the death of Liam Drennan, St Fiacre's Place. A lifelong resident of Fiacre's Place,'Liamy, as he was popularly known, came from a family with a strong musical and sporting tradition. Liam, himself was a gifted saxophone player and was band leader with the popular Black Aces showband in their heyday during the ’60s and ’70s.
Liam was also a valued member of the St Patrick’s Brass and Reed band over many years. Liam's brother Larry Drennan won a number of All-Ireland billiards titles while his grandson Mikey Drennan won an All-Ireland under-14 Féile medal with the club in 2008.
Predeceased by his wife Mary, he is survived by his daughters Annette and Molly, sons David and Jimmy and the extended Drennan family. Members of St Patrick’s Brass & Reed band paid a musical tribute to their colleague Liam during his Requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Church on Wednesday after which he was laid to rest in Foulkstown
