Kilkenny group raises over €1million

A night of celebration was held in Castlecomer recently...

The traditional Last Supper at which so many deserving local and national charities benefit was well attended in Castlecomer  Golf Club on Friday night.

MC and secretary Billy Moran outlined the overall progress of the 44th Wellington Race. He stated that over €1million has been raised and the figure is still climbing.

The current committee are the custodians of the Wellie Race, and he paid tribute to those who have joined and those who have been with the committee from the beginning.

Billy thanked the hard working and dedicated committee. He also thanked the local councillors for the Civic Reception afforded to the Wellie Race committee earlier in 2024 and that it was a privilege to have such recognition by Kilkenny County Council.

Michael Brennan, Chairperson, spoke of the many volunteers who made the 44th work and be successful. He itemised each of the volunteer groups and thanked them all. The many facets of the race organisation were listed out and he emphasised that without the dedicated volunteers the event could not be successful. He also thanked the race sponsors for their generosity and the event main sponsor Kilkenny County Council and Joe Coogan.

Enda Healy then gave the overall financial breakdown which showed a significant improvement on last year with in excess of €31,000 being raised. Enda then presented the merit awards. Entertainment for the night was provided by Mark Rothwell and friends. The beneficiaries were then presented with their cheques individually.
