An additional €1.5million in funding has been announced for the development of the new Museum of Medieval Kilkenny.
The allocation of funding was confirmed at the launch of a new five year tourism development plan for Kilkenny by Fáilte Ireland at St Canice’s Cathedral on Tuesday, April 30.
CEO of Fáilte Ireland, Paul Kelly, confirmed the financial support for the new museum, stating: "It will become a key visitor attraction in Kilkenny City and act as a central point for the Medieval Mile."
Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Michael Doyle, told those present that construction on the new amenity will begin in June of this year with the museum expected to open its doors in June 2026.
It understood the new museum will incorporate the existing Medieval Mile Museum.
