Player/Manager, Conor English was thrilled and relieved in equal measure that his squad's hard work paid off on the biggest day in the Kilkenny soccer calendar.

"You work so hard in order to get to a position like this and sometimes you think to yourself is it going to happen but when it pays off it's just a huge relief," he said.

"I was never there to be second best or for hard luck stories as nice as it is to get to finals I was there to get something and obviously try and kick on from there," he added.

The importance of the win isn't exclusive to the squad with English believing Saturday night's victory is monumental for the Goresbridge community at large.

"Anyone who would have stepped foot in our local pub Saturday night would have heard it (the celebrations) in Gowran," he commented, adding, "You have kids now who are looking up to the older lads in the squad now," praising the huge numbers family came out in to support the team on Saturday evening.

"I've never seen anything like it for a country club because believe it or not Goresbridge is a huge soccer area. I remember going to primary school there and it was soccer, soccer, soccer and I can see it now, I love seeing it even when I'm at home now, lads knocking around the green and the school. Some of them aren't even let play in the school it's so competitive," commented English.
