TAP '>' FOR NEXT PILTOWN LEA CANDIDATE

David Kane (Social Democrats)

David Kane’s decision to enter politics stemmed from ‘a desire to contribute positively to our community rather than simply criticise the status quo’.

“For too long, political deadlock has hindered progress and I felt compelled to step up and make a difference,” he said.

Mr Kane says that he has a successful career outside the political sphere, and a wealth of experience to bring to the table.

“I felt frustrated that so many people were being left behind in a country that is rushing forward,” he said.

“This creates huge resentment in those people, many of whom I am meeting at the doors.”

Mr Kane believes that the Social Democrats stand out because ‘their values resonate with my own’: transparency, integrity and a commitment to making evidence-based decisions.

“Our policies explicitly advocate for investment in the infrastructure of society, like social services, health, and housing. To me it feels like this country has become wealthy kind of by accident and I am anxious that we create the foundation for a more sustainable kind of prosperity.

“In my professional life, I have developed a set of skills that align well with the responsibilities of a local councillor. I work with diverse groups, and individuals from different backgrounds in my role as a librarian.

“As your councillor, I will bring a fresh perspective and a healthy dose of enthusiasm, to address the day-to-day issues that affect people in South Kilkenny.”
