Councillor John Coonan has welcomed a €6 million investment has been secured to create new homes from vacant and derelict properties.
Cllr Coonan said that 22 vacant and derelict properties have already been approved and that a further 74 derelict properties will now become homes.
“I am thrilled to announce that we have secured a significant investment of €6,000,000 for Kilkenny for the purchase and refurbishment of vacant and derelict properties, transforming them into homes and revitalising our city. The application process has been simplified to avail of these grants and I have already helped several applicants who have earmarked Derelict & Vacant buildings they are going to transform into a new homes.
“This funding will cover the cost of acquiring residential and commercial properties and performing minor works to make them suitable for sale,” said the Fianna Fáil councillor.
“Buyers will also be supported to access additional grants, such as the Vacant and Derelict Property Refurbishment Grant, SEAI energy efficiency grants, or the Repair and Leasing Scheme.
“This funding will enable the transformation of 74 derelict properties into homes, in addition to the 22 homes already approved. Bringing these properties back into use will breathe new life into our city, making it a more vibrant and attractive place to live.
“As an active council member always looking for opportunities to deliver housing for all, I am delighted to welcome this huge investment in Kilkenny.
“This initiative is a win-win for Kilkenny, promoting development, improving living conditions, and strengthening our community. As a dedicated council member, I am committed to continuing to support and advance such transformative projects,” he added.
