Kilkenny soccer club celebrates milestone birthday

Fort Rangers are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. The first events to mark this milestone was held on Saturday when they officially opened their new pitch at Church Hill, Cuffesgrange.

A wonderful morning was enjoyed by all who attended. There was a soccer blitz for teams aged from under-six to under-nine with the locals joined by players from Callan United, Stoneyford United, Freshford Town and Deen Celtic to provide a great spectacle of soccer for the large crowd in attendance.

A barbecue helped keep the hunger away, with burgers and hot dogs served to all, with juice, popcorn and candyfloss also provided for the children.

The formalities were performed at 1pm with Fr Mark Condon conducting a blessing of the grounds before John Sullivan cut the ribbon.

The club are very grateful to all who made the occasion a huge success, from the committee to the more than 100 players who were there on the day, their coaches and parents and the large number of local well-wishers who gathered to support the occasion. The weather also played ball, making for an electric atmosphere.
Here’s to the next 50 years!
