John Street, Kilkenny
Mayor of Kilkenny, Fianna Fáil's Cllr Andrew McGuinness has requested the council investigate the possibility of implementing a looped tourist trail to incorporate John Street in Kilkenny City.
Raising the motion at a meeting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District, Cllr McGuinness proposed a trail be designed that would bring visitors to the John Street area and complement the Medieval Mile.
The potential trail would be included on all digital and printed assets created by Kilkenny County Council and all tourism and retail bodies, encouraging footfall to the John Street area.

Cllr McGuinness also suggested the trail could be a self-guided interactive tourist attraction with QR codes on the historical buildings along the route.
The motion, seconded by party colleague Cllr Joe Malone was widely welcomed at the meeting.
Among the councillors to show their support was Fine Gael’s David Fitzgerald who suggested the council site and surrounding land should be considered as part of any plans to implement a tourist trail in the area.
