Artists, collaborators and arts enthusiasts gathered in Billy Byrne’s on Friday night for the launch of this year’s AKA festival.

This year boasts a jam-packed programme of events which has been carefully compiled following the 110 submissions that were received in June.

“With an increased capacity within the festival, we intend on providing a programme of the highest quality possible. This growth is not only a testament to the vibrant creativity in our community but also to the dedicated support from the people of Kilkenny.

“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated to the festival so far. This year, your generous contributions will enhance the festival's visibility through the development of a detailed map and additional posters around town,” said a committee spokesperson.

AKA ambassador, Tony Strickland also attended the launch lending his unwavering support to the festival again this year.

AKA is a voluntary run arts festival that showcases the hard work and talent of artists and community groups in Kilkenny City and county. Founded in 2014 by a group of artists and community organisers looking to bring together the scattered events and exhibitions that happen each August in Kilkenny. Over the last ten years the festival has grown from strength to strength and continues to offer a platform to established and emerging artists from Kilkenny City and county.

Organisers are this year appealing to anyone who can to donate to their gofundme page which enables the voluntary committee to continue to produce a festival of the highest calibre.

“To keep the festival a low-cost activity for artists and audiences , the team is fundraising. AKA needs to keep the free model now and into the bright future of AKA! www.gofundme.com
