At the National Design & Craft Gallery (NDCG) Past, Present – Future, Perfect, a Made Local exhibition by Cork Craft & Design (CCD) will open on Saturday, August 10 as part of Kilkenny Arts Festival and will run until October 28.
From traditional techniques to modern innovations, the pieces on display reflect the diversity and skill of 46 of the region’s makers. The exhibition showcases the talent and dedication of CCD members who have contributed to the vibrant craft community in Cork to produce locally made pieces.
Each item tells a story – of the materials used, the process involved, and the artist’s vision. Curated by Ava Hayes, the exhibition explores the intersection of time, history and future possibilities in celebration of fifteen years of CCD’s Cork Craft Month.
Meanwhile at St Mary’s Cathedral on James Street a exhibition of current work by Irish Patchwork South Midlands Branch members will take place from August 12 to 23. There will be daily demonstrations of patchwork and quilting for visitors for the duration of the exhibition and a great variety of work and techniques on display at St Mary’s Cathedral in the Chapter Room.
On August 13 at the community hall in Thomastown there will also be a contemporary weaving workshop with Kay Roche. Explore weaving using many different materials including repurposed fabric, lace, ribbons and other textiles. Participants are asked to bring along anything that means something to you and weave it into your piece. Looms will be warped up and ready to use so you can spend your time designing and weaving. This event, which will explore contemporary weaving as well as looking at more traditional methods costs €40 and refreshments will be available. augustcraftmonth.org
