Heartbroken Kilkenny family remember Joe (14) who died following e-scooter collision

The heartbroken family and friends of Kilkenny teenager Joe Carthy who died following an e-scooter collision are remembering a much-loved young man who loved the outdoors life.

Tributes have been paid to the young man by a number of local public representatives including Cllr Michael Delaney who lives close to the Carthy family in Bonnettstown.

Local TD Malcolm Noonan also posted on social media.

“Deepest condolences to Joe's family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.”

Cllr Joe Malone also visited the family home yesterday to pay his respects. 

"They are all devastated and in shock. Yesterday the family were all coming together out in the family home to remember young Joe," said Cllr Malone.

In a statement by the Kilkenny Traveller Movement said that their 'thoughts and prayers are with the Carthy family' following the tragic death of young Joe.

Balloons were released on the Tullaroan Road yesterday evening in memory of the youngster and floral tributes have also been placed at the scene of the collision.

Joe is the son of Paddy and Bridget Carthy and is the youngest of seven siblings. The teenager is remembered for his love of fishing, hunting and handball.

Joe Carthy died following a collision with a car close to his home on Saturday evening. The teenager was rushed to St Luke's Hospital where he was treated for his injuries but tragically died yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was on the Tullaroan Road in the Bonnettstown area between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday evening to contact Kilkenny Garda Station.
