Treasured Kilkenny pub goes up for sale after 102 years of family ownership

One local family is calling last orders after 102 years in the bar trade as a much-loved pub goes up for sale.

Eddie Murphy's bar and music venue on Low Street in Thomastown has been in the Murphy family name since 1921 but after over a century in business, the bar is searching for new owners.

The bar is an established public house with a full seven day license.

Thomastown is well known for its creative arts and cultural identity and Murphy's bar plays an integral part, widely known as a popular music venue with musicians of many genres sampling its unique atmosphere over the years.

Enjoying a prominent position just off the corner of Low Street and Market Street, the property enjoys a generous street frontage and comprises a four bay two storey building with single bay two storey return to the rear. The property offers a tremendous potential and sits on a generous site with rear vehicular access provided via a gated entrance on Low Street.

The ground floor accommodation is accessed from the street and leads to a welcoming traditional bar area with open plan arrangement. Widely known as a popular music venue over the years a large rear function area is finished with eclectic wall art and leads to the outside yard with outdoor stage. A kitchen is located to the rear of the main bar, while adjacent a keg room interconnects with both the front bar and the rear function room.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, a large reception room overlooking Low Street and a main bathroom.

A staircase leads to the attic floor which is extensive and has tremendous potential to add further bedroom accommodation.

Eddie Murphy's bar has been put on the market by Warren McCreary Auctioneers.
