Storyteller and sculptor Martin Matthews who will take part in the Alternative Kilkenny Arts Festival

An exhibition featuring the captivating artwork of Martin Matthews, a storyteller, artist, and stone sculptor will form part of the Alternative Kilkenny Arts Festival (AKA).

From August 10 to August 18, visitors can experience Storytelling with Stone at the Scouts Den in Thomastown, open daily from 11am to 5pm.

This exhibition delves into an ancient Congolese creation story, where stone chose not to join other earth energies in producing children, opting instead for eternal existence while holding the stories of the earth. For the past few years, Martin Matthews has drawn inspiration from this narrative, focusing on how viewers interpret and perceive the stories embedded within his sculptures.
Each piece invites contemplation on themes of life, death, and the permanence of memory, encouraging visitors to engage with the narratives that resonate with them.

Storytelling with Stone is a unique fusion of ancient wisdom and contemporary artistic expression, inviting audiences to reflect on their own connections to the stories of nature and existence. Audiences are invited to join us in this exploration of storytelling and sculpture, where each sculpture whispers tales of the earth, waiting to be discovered.
