A Dubai-based hurler has thanked Kilkenny hurlmakers for supplying him with hurls and sliotars following his move to the Dubai Celts Hurling team.
Abdullah Al Jumaili thanked Butlers Hurleys in a post on social media, saying "the Cats will never let you down!"
Abdullah fled Iraq with his family in 2008 when he was just nine years old, and has since achieved major success in Ireland and abroad, graduating from Dublin Institute of Technology with a law degree.
Now an Irish citizen and fanatical hurler, Abdullah also previously served as a Dublin GAA Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Ambassador. He also played hurling for many years with Dun-Laoghaire GAA club Ballinteer St John’s, before moving abroad.
The passionate hurler has since moved to Dubai, but his love of the Irish sport remains. Abdullah has joined the popular Dubai Celts, a signifcant GAA club with over 230 adult players across football, hurling and camogie, and an ever-growing juvenile section with upwards of 120 children playing every week from vast array of nationalities.
Thanking Butlers Hurleys on social media, Abdullah said: "As I join Dubai Celts Hurling, Butler Hurleys from Kilkenny have decided to support me with some hurls and sliotars for the season. Many thanks to Eamonn and all staff at Butler Hurleys".
Butlers Hurleys have been making hurls since 2013 in their workshop just outside the parish of Ballycallan in Kilkenny.
The hurlmakers say it is their aim and objective to give customers "a hurley which meets their requirements which in turn helps them perform to the best of their ability on the pitch".
