The transport hub under construction on the Ferrybank side of the River Suir

The North Quays project close to the Kilkenny border has progressed well in recent months.

That was the update relayed to elected officials at this month's meeting of Piltown Municipal District.

With the removal of the cofferdams in the River Suir, the bridge abutments and piers for the new sustainable transport bridge are now visible.

The fabrication of the steel deck substructure in Belgium is now complete, and the mechanical and electrical components are currently being installed.

The transport hub on the Ferrybank side of the Suir has progressed to roof level, enclosing the concourse area that will also house the ticketing area and offices at first floor level.

Works to the platforms and rail trackare continuing and ground works have commenced on the new pedestrian access bridge to the west of the transport hub.

Construction on the new railway flood defence system will commence this quarter.

This system will protect the existing and new rail infrastructure from the increasing impacts of flooding and aims to help insure a climate resilient commuter rail service.

Kilkenny County Council is a key partner in the delivery of the project.
