Kilkenny soccer club left 'constantly' cleaning dog poo from pitch

A Kilkenny soccer club has said people who allow their dog 'to do his or her business' on their pitch should be 'absolutely ashamed'.

Posting to Facebook, a spokesperson for Newpark AFC said: "If you are a dog owner please please keep your dog off of our pitch. No child should go home covered in dog poo and our coaches are constantly cleaning up after dogs, it's absolutely ridiculous."

"If you have allowed your dog to do his or her business on our pitch and not cleaned up after them you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself," the post added.

"We have children training and playing matches on that pitch and they shouldn't be constantly cleaning dog poo off their boots, they shouldn't have a ball coming at them that has rolled across dog poo, they shouldn't have to constantly watch where they're running, they should be able to enjoy themselves," the post continued.

"Show some respect, keep your dog off of our pitch," the post concluded.

Meanwhile, the subject of dog fouling featured in Friday's meeting of the Kilkenny Municipal District with Fianna Fáil councillor John Coonan highlighting it as a 'serious problem' in the city, criticising members of the public who allow dogs to relieve themselves on footpaths and green areas of housing estates and other areas.
