A local county councillor is called for the age for the elderly grants scheme to be reduced from 66 to 60.

Fine Gael Councillor John Brennan has stated that the housing aid for the elderly grants scheme needs to be amended and proposed that the age limit be reduced from 66 to 60.

"There are a lot of people aged 60 who have serious health issues and they are not in a position to receive the grant because the age limit is 66. Cllr Brennan also stated that the grant needs to be increased from the present €€8,000 to €12,000 to reflect the cost of building material," Cllr Brennan stated.

Increases on housing grant measures are expected to be signed off by Cabinet later today.
