Subtitle  Film Festival  set to wow Kilkenny audiences

After five years, the highly-anticipated Subtitle Film Festival will return to Kilkenny from November 17 to 24, 2024.

This will be its 12th year as Ireland’s only film festival of popular subtitled European films.

Subtitle brings together a selection of European films that invites audiences to see cinema in a whole new way. Many of the films at the 2024 festival have never been screened theatrically in Ireland and a number of them are Irish premieres.

For the 2024 edition, of the festival Subtitle will present 32 films including dramas, thrillers and comedies from Norway, Iceland, Russia, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Spain, Ukraine and Sweden.

Highlights this year include Thomas Arslan’s minimalist thriller, SCORCHED EARTH, Lija Ingolfsdottir’s award-winning Norwegian drama, LOVEABLE; Dag Johan Haugerud’s comedy drama SEX; Sophie Fillier’s existential comedy THIS LIFE OF MINE; and Gustav Möller’s gritty new thriller, SONS.

Hosted by Pauline McLynn, the popular Angela Awards acknowledges the achievements of talent from across Europe and will take place in the Set Theatre on Saturday, November 23 at 8.30pm. Award presentations are made by actors, writers and directors from the Irish film industry at the ceremony.

Richard Cook, Festival Co-Director said the team are delighted to bring the festival back to Kilkenny.

“I couldn’t be happier to bring Subtitle back to Kilkenny. We can already see how receptive the people of Kilkenny are to the festival, with ticket sales already surpassing those of 2019. It’s set to be a great year.”

Subtitle will be running a number of competitions and giveaways over its social channels on Facebook and Instagram @subtitlefestival.
