New sporting facilities on the way to Kilkenny

Sport in Thomastown has been given a huge boost with confirmation of new development plans for the area.

Grennan College and Thomastown Athletics Club (AC) have partnered to secure sports capital funding that will see the next phase of the project deliver a multi-sports synthetic playing area to include a 60m synthetic athletics track in 2025.

In addition, it will also see the refurbishment of existing indoor basketball courts and additional sporting and gym equipment.

The news follows a hugely successfully opening of a new gym at Grennan College in December 2022 which Thomastown AC were instrumental in putting in place with this next step in the project expected to be a huge benefit to the school and local clubs in the town.

"This project is a great example of maximising sports capital funding for a local community where the facilities developed will be used by students during school hours and sports clubs outside school hours," Fianna Fáil General Election candidate, John McGuinness stated.
