Aontú's Gary O'Neill has been eliminated on count nine at the Kilkenny Count Centre in Loreto Secondary School as the fight for the five Dáil seats in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency continues.

O'Neill, a 36-year-old horticultural student and organic food producer from Ferrybank said he was 'honoured' to stand for Aontú, a party he described as the ‘only real opposition in the country’ prior to the election.

Meanwhile, John McGuinness is now within touching distance of election (11,063 votes) with the quota at 11,627.
