Carlow-based Fine Gael candidate Catherine Callaghan has taken the second seat in Carlow-Kilkenny, reaching the 11,627 quota after the fourteenth count.
She benefitted greatly from the distributed votes of her recently eliminated Kilkenny-based party colleague David Fitzgerald (+4,784 votes).
Next to be distributed is Callaghan's surplus of 2,460.

Peter 'Chap' Cleere (Fianna Fáil) will likely be elected after the next count as he currently sits on 11,540 votes, less than 100 votes under the quota.
Also still vying for a seat are Jennifer Murnane O'Connor of Fianna Fáil (9,717 votes) as well as the two Sinn Féin candidates Natasha Newsome Drennan (8,702 votes) and Áine Gladney Knox (8,594 votes).
