Kilkenny man scoops huge amount of money on scratch card

'I ran straight back into the shop to ask the assistant to scan the ticket to make sure I wasn’t seeing things' - Kilkenny man collects €20,000 win from scratch card

A Kilkenny man got the festive cheer underway early this year after scooping the top prize of €20,000 on seasonal 'Merry Money Scratch Card'.

The player purchased the €5 winning scratch card at O’Keeffe’s Daybreak, Market Street, Thomastown, County Kilkenny, while making his way to work.

“I was sitting in the car, enjoying my morning coffee and decided to scratch the card before heading into work,” he explained.

“When I first saw that I won €20,000, I couldn’t believe it. I ran straight back into the shop to ask the assistant to scan the ticket to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. It wasn’t until then that I actually let myself believe the win.”

When asked how he planned to spend his surprise windfall, he said: “I’m not 100% sure what I'll do with the winnings just yet, but I’m certain there’ll be a sunny trip on the cards next year.”
