The Main Talking Points as Kilkenny defeated Wexford in Allianz Hurling League

Cian Kenny of Kilkenny is tackled by Conor Hearne of Wexford during the Allianz Hurling League clash.

Main Man
Mikey Carey (Kilkenny)
The Kilkenny half-back line of David Blanchfield, Mikey Carey and Paddy Deegan laid the platform for Saturday’s win with a dominant display as they got on top of Wexford early on. Carey and Blanchfield swapped around positions with the Young Irelands man putting his foot to the wheel in a composed display from centre back that saw him also score one point from play.

Talking Point
After disappointing starts in their previous two contests, Kilkenny really set out their stall as they scored 2-10 in the opening 35 minutes and while the opposition was very poor, it was still a statement beginning to the game.

Turning Point
Kilkenny looked to be well on their way anyway but Mossy Keoghan’s first goal opened up a big gap between the teams and Wexford were chasing from that point on.

Highlight
A second win on the road has Kilkenny in decent shape on the league table.

Lowlight
The Cats will be disappointed they didn’t kick on in the second period. They’ll need to be more clinical in the coming weeks.

Attendance
4,561

What’s Next?
All of the counties will enjoy a weekend off before returning to action where Kilkenny host Limerick and Clare face Wexford with both games taking place on Sunday, February 23.
