Tributes paid to 'quick-witted' Kilkenny man with a 'twinkle in his eye' following passing

Greg Blanchfield of Larchfield, Kilkenny City, passed away peacefully on Saturday

A local community in Kilkenny is in mourning following the passing of a much-loved father, grandfather, and friend over the weekend.

Greg Blanchfield of Larchfield, Kilkenny City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, at the Kilkenny Care Centre, surrounded by his devoted family.

A dearly beloved husband to the late Mary, Greg was the proud father of Patrick, Caroline, Gregory, Sinéad, Peter, Mary, and Aoibhlinn. He was also a cherished brother to Úna and Siobhán, and a doting grandfather to fifteen grandchildren.

Tributes have poured in from those who knew him, sharing their fond memories of a man who brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Senator Malcolm Noonan shared his condolences on RIP.ie, saying: "We were all saddened to hear of Greg's passing. He was a wonderful neighbour in Larchfield, always up for a chat. Our deepest condolences to Greg's family and many friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.”

A family friend shared: "Sincere condolences to all the Blanchfield family on Greg's passing. He was such a lovely character whose love for his family was so evident. May his gentle soul RIP."

Another tribute came from someone who fondly remembered their time together, writing: "Sincere condolences to all the Blanchfield family on the death of their dear father. Greg, you were one in a million and the fun we had in the leisure club will stay with me forever. May Greg rest in peace."

A close friend wrote: "To Greg, Mary, Ella and Sarah, and all the Blanchfield family. I am just so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was such a gentleman, so young at heart. I will always have fond memories of him. Thinking of you all at this sad time."

A heartfelt message from another friend said: "Our deepest sympathies to Aoibhlinn and Shane, Caroline and Phil, and the entire Blanchfield family on the passing of Greg. Always quick-witted and a twinkle in his eye, a gentleman who will be greatly missed by many. You will all remain in our thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks and months. Rest in peace, Greg, reunited with Mary."

Greg's funeral arrangements have been announced. He will be reposing at his home on Tuesday, April 1, from 3.45pm with funeral prayers at 5.45 pm, followed by removal to St. Patrick's Church. Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 11am, followed by interment in St. Kieran's Cemetery.
