Kilkenny City pub confirms closure 'keeping with tradition'

Two local pubs (under the same ownership) have confirmed to Kilkenny Live they will stay closed today (Good Friday) 'keeping with tradition'.

Hackett's Bar in Irishtown and Sean Byrne's on Parnell Street will remain closed in keeping with the old Irish law.

Despite not being a public holiday, schools and many businesses close their doors, with all pubs and off licenses included until 2018.

Since then, the ban on selling alcohol on Good Friday has been lifted, with Christmas Day the only remaining date in the calendar prohibiting the sale of alcoholic drinks.
