Mackessy has been selected as a Joe McDonagh Cup All-Star over the past five seasons in a row but made the switch to Kilkenny late last year.

On his Leinster Championship debut last Saturday, the O'Loughlin Gaels clubman bagged 0-4 (0-2 f) in the Cats' 3-24 to 0-21 win over Galway in UPMC Nowlan Park. - READ MORE HERE

"He played well, took a few nice scores and could have had a few more I suppose," Donie Mackessy told Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC) after the match.

"The father's a Tipp man so he wouldn't be too proud," Donie joked, adding, "there's been good days out (following Fionan play) and plenty of pints after, so the craic is mighty."

Asked if Fionan keeps him in the loop on Kilkenny GAA affairs, Donie replied: "Not much, I wouldn't ask him anyway, I leave him at it. He's a proper professional, hurling or football, he loves the both of them," he continued.

"Up the Kingdom!," Donie concluded.
