Kilkenny athlete Peter Lynch breaks Irish record after outstanding performance

Lynch clocked a time of 2:09:36 in a remarkable run for the Kilkenny athlete

Peter Lynch of the Kilkenny City Harriers (KCH) has broken the Irish senior marathon record in a momentus achievement for the local athlete.

Racing in the Düsseldorf Marathon in Germany, he clocked a time of 2:09:36 which takes six seconds off the previous record held by Hiko Tonosa.

Lynch finished third in the race which was won by Alex Meier (USA) in 2:08:32.

Fearghal Curtin (Youghal AC) was fourth in his debut over the distance in 2:11:35
