Issue of deer crossing the road 'possibly worsening'
Motorists using the Belview Port Road (N29) in South Kilkenny are being urged to take extra care following increasing reports of deer sightings and near misses in the area.
Speaking at this month's meeting of Piltown Municipal District, held in Ferrybank, Cllr Pat Dunphy described the stretch as "becoming famous for deer crossings", noting there had already been “a few bangs there”.
Cllr Dunphy questioned whether warning signage had been installed to alert drivers to the danger.

Area engineer John Tennyson confirmed that while the signs had been ordered, the local authority was “still waiting” for delivery. He said some of the signs “had to be made specifically” and would be erected “hopefully soon”.
The meeting also heard that the number of reports relating to deer sightings and near misses appeared to be rising.
Mr Tennyson suggested this could be evidence that the issue is “possibly worsening”.
