Local officials Kevin O'Neill and Frank Begley took part in a number of Kennedy Cup games over the past number of days with the prestigious U14 soccer competition held in the University of Limerick (UL). - SEE PICTURES BELOW
It wasn’t to be for Kilkenny’s Kennedy Cup side as the woodwork and some great goalkeeping saw them slip to a 2-0 defeat against Dundalk in the Shield final.

Frank Begley was a match official for ten matches, while Kevin O'Neill officiated 11 games.
Good performances by both throughout the week were rewarded with their appointment to the 3rd /4th place play off match. Begley was appointed as an assistant referee and Kevin as fourth official.

The game was between Cork schoolboys league and North East Regional League (NERL) and the result was 1-0 to the Cork side. The tournament was won by Limerick Desmond who defeated Donegal 2-0 in final. The success of the Kilkenny referees follows on from last years' success when O'Neill refereed the 2024 cup final.
